In this one-day, hands-on workshop we’ll explore During this workshop, visiting artist Kyla Toomey will demonstrate her unique techniques for throwing and altering pottery, and the ways in which alterations make everyday functional items more dynamic. Each pot Kyla throws is a blank canvas to explore the soft, elastic qualities of clay and how impressing alterations can create curves, softened grid lines, volume, and depth of surface.
Kyla will also demonstrate how to make your own tools and stamps to develop a style that is unique to you. The tools don’t have to be complex - even simple tools can create distinctive work.
This workshop is designed for both throwers and hand-builders with at least some experience working with clay.
